Improving the Quality of Education In Nigeria using Technology: Digital education is the creative application of digital tools and technology during teaching and learning. It is a style of teaching and learning that effectively utilizes technology and incorporates technological educational methodologies.

Digital education refers to the use of the internet or ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to improve and support the teaching and learning process. E-learning and technologically enhanced learning are some names for it (TEL).

Improving the quality of education in Nigeria

Although Nigeria’s educational system includes some elements of digital education, particularly in the private sector, the concept of employing technology in the classroom is still very new and even contentious for the majority of those involved in education.

Some of the causes of the disagreements include a lack of qualified personnel to operate the available systems, inadequate ICT infrastructure, a lack of funding, an ineffective coordination of all the various ICT for education, and so on.

Despite the challenges that have hampered the complete implementation of digital education in Nigeria, some schools have accepted it and are enjoying the benefits.

Therefore, if Nigeria wants to create graduates who can compete globally, enhancing digital education in the country’s educational system is essential. There are several ways to carry out the aforementioned, especially if everyone pitches in;

First and foremost, appropriate funding for the educational system, especially from the government, is necessary. It goes without saying that having access to the availability of the internet in schools is necessary for the creation of an efficient e-learning environment. It should be possible to afford purchasing internet facilities that are convenient for both teachers and students.

Additionally, all educational stakeholders must change their perspectives from viewing technology as a threat to understanding how it may improve the teaching and learning process in order to support digital education in Nigeria.

Many teachers who participated in a meeting with me were adamantly opposed to allowing young pupils access to the internet in the classroom. They link the rise in moral degradation among young people in society to internet usage.

Although it is vital to keep in mind that these children are digital natives who utilize the internet in almost everything they do, it is also true that unrestrained and inappropriate internet use among young learners can be detrimental.

Safety precautions should be put in place in addition to the aforementioned to guarantee that, at the very least, children’ access to certain materials is managed and monitored during school hours.

This can be done if the government and school administrators collaborate with tech firms like LG and Techno to create specialized tablets and laptops.

Only the materials and information that students need for learning would be accessible to them through these specific E-learning tools.

Additionally, the materials should be created so that kids will like participating actively. I refer to this as “distracting their distraction.”

Furthermore, if Nigerian digital education improves, the country would be less reliant on government support for education.

The truth is that the Nigerian government has not shown much interest in the education sector throughout the years. As a result, waiting for the government alone to improve education, much alone adapt and improve digital education, is similar to Oscar Wilde’s “waiting for Godot.

In order to improve digital education in Nigeria, educators must be taught the use of ICT, especially for instructional reasons. It’s unfortunate that most instructors and educators can’t even operate their phones correctly, let alone other ICT infrastructures.

Most teachers are unaware that they may create virtual classrooms for students, conduct virtual field trips in the classroom, and so on. This underlines the importance of preparing teachers to be tech-savvy.
